Kev Willow wins Chase & Status Remix Competition
Chase & Status have been rulers of the commercial D’n'B and Dubstep world for sometime now, breaking into the mainstream with tracks like “End Credits” with Plan B and more recently, the storming “Blind Faith” – Not to mention producing for Bajan superstar Rihanna!
Recently, they opened up the doors for lesser known producers and ran a competition to find a remix for their up-and-coming release “Time” featuring Delilah.
..and fuck me, who should win but our very own Scouse production wizard, Kev Willow.
“As soon as we heard Kev Willow’s remix we knew we’d found the winner. We loved the music used in the intro, and the garage / Todd Edwards vibe with the cut up vocals was an original concept for dubstep. It was a different and exciting sounding remix and he really put his own stamp on it.”

MARC ALEKSEI LCD EP004 – LEMON&HONEY EP
Digital Download
UPC: 5032629006557
1. Lemon&Honey 2. Pristine 3. Revere 4. Shine
Following a succession of strong releases and numerous accolades, Love & Cake Digital return to the scene with their fourth EP release. This time with “Lemon&Honey”, a soulful, intelligent slice of Tech House-meets-Electro from the Australian newcomer Marc Aleksei. Already winning praise is his native Oz, Aleksei (real name Cheyenne Lawson) is a standout talent, who despite his young age is proving that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Stylistically, this young upstart is fusing lush Minimal Tech, with deliciously squelchy Electro elements, as well as giving a nod to Hip Hop and Dubstep along the way. Kicking off the display of diversity is the title track “Lemon&Honey” which manages to be upfront, ravey and intellectual all at once. With melodic subtleties that have drawn comparisons to Wesley Matsell’s ‘’Bernwerk’’, the opening track is a prime example of just how promising this new talent is. The subsequent tracks range from the hard-hitting, sub-bass fueled “Pristine”, the technical and at times, mechanical intricacies of ‘Revere’ to the deep, contemplative, atmospheric closer “Shine”. With words of encouragement and appreciation coming from Australia’s top DJ, Luke Porter and club plays from various DJs hitting up America’s east coast, Marc Aleksei is taking his first steps to being an internationally recognised talent.
New tings – Tom Excell & Marc Aleksei
Here is a sneaky peak at two new tracks we’re in the process of scheduling for Love&Cake Digital.. The first, Soul Lemon by Tom Excell is a grimey, dubstep-infused slice of Electro-Breaks and the second, coming all the way from Queensland, Australia is Marc Aleksei’s exceptional slice of Tech-House and Minimal, the Lemon&Honey EP.
Mmmm.. Fruity. What do you guys think?
Fantastic FREE BitBasic Album on Rec72
DOWNLOAD IT HERE! Here’s what Rec72 are saying..
London-based Bitbasic aka. Simon Haycock, has released several EPs and albums through other netlabels such as Monotonik and Testpilot Music before; Bitbasic started his musical adventures at the age of 15. Playing out with a laptop and 40h monome, Simon uses his self-written software ‘dj64′ which modells a mixer and two turntables virtually.
As the music magazine Drowned in Sound has coined Bitbasic’s virtuosity “in nodding to the likes of Nathan Fake, Four Tet and Paul White among others, Haycock is [...]bringing together equally excellent and equally diverse genres and wedding them into a sound distinctly his own.”
Bitbasic has recently played live at the Unique Beats Festival 2010 in Edinburgh as rec72 netlabel mates Pandacetamol did in 2009.
Congratulations to BitBasic & Miaoux Miaoux
Two of our Test Pilot artists Simon Haycock aka BitBasic and Julian Corrie aka Miaoux Miaoux have featured on Music Week covermount CDs in the last two months. Bizarrely, each appearance was entirely independent of the other.. But all the same, bravo guys!
To catch BitBasic Live and see what all the fuss is about, check out Summersault in London this weekend: http://www.villageunderground.co.uk/events/summersault
Miaoux Miaoux – Blooms EP – Out on CD 16th March 2010
Love & Cake Digital
Compact Disc EP (Limited Edition) Available 16th March 2010
Digital Download forthcoming/tbc
1. Pixellated 2. Dream On 3. Snow
Miaoux Miaoux, aka Julian Corrie, releases his first new material in two years in the form of the Blooms EP, a beautiful and striking blend of electronica and post-rock. Already being praised by BBC Radio 1, The Scotsman, and Glasgow PodCART, the EP features a more song-orientated approach to Miaoux Miaoux’s unique brand of electronica, recalling The Postal Service and Apparat, as well as established post-rock pioneers Mogwai.
It follows on from the success of his debut album Rainbow Bubbles, which The List called “an accomplished collection of post-rocking vibrations laced with some decidedly un-bedroomy electronics” and Drowned in Sound “a very good album”. Rainbow Bubbles also included an acclaimed remix of indie popsters Zoey Van Goey, which appeared as the b-side to their first single.
The Blooms EP will be launched on Tuesday 16th March with a gig at the 13th Note Cafe, Glasgow, 9pm, where Miaoux Miaoux will be supported by chiptune wizard Firebrand Boy and the legendary Errors DJs. It will be available on CD, and also as a download from all good digital retailers including (but not limited to) iTunes, Amazon, Napster, LaLa, Trackitdown, Juno, Rhapsody and eMusic.
